The lactation consultants

Baby & Borstvoeding

Our Team

We have a team of lactation consultants from a diverse field of work. This diversity gives us extensive experience in maternal and childcare, allowing us to use our clinical expertise to identify reasons why breastfeeding may not be going well or might not be successful at all. For decades, we have been guiding mothers in breastfeeding and formula feeding, catering to both healthy babies and those with issues such as reflux, allergies, sleep problems, heart, and lung diseases. Premature or underweight babies are also within our scope.

We specialize in tongue tie and lip tie.

We all completed a master class on bottle refusal at Volmondig academy to provide optimal guidance in this area.

As lactation consultants, we are members of the Dutch Association of Lactation Consultants and are certified lactation consultants.

We keep our knowledge up to date through regular training, participation in conferences both domestically and internationally, and recertification as lactation consultants (IBCLC) every five years to ensure the quality of care.

Angelique Dekker

I am lactation consultant Angelique Dekker, with 15 years of experience as a child nurse at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital. Since 2007, I have been running my own practice, Baby & Borstvoeding, in Utrecht-Leidsche Rijn. From 2020, I have been involved with the Tongue-tie Team in Rosmalen at Staas and Bergmans and, since 2023, with the Tongue-tie Team at Tandinzicht in De Bilt.

More than just breastfeeding and pumping

My background as a pediatric nurse allows me to assist you with various aspects of (breast)feeding, including the transition from the hospital to home with a sick or prematurely born child. I am available for questions and assistance with the transition from breastfeeding to bottle feeding and/or solid foods. Expert advice on swaddling and sleep also falls within my expertise.

My own breastfeeding story

My husband and I have a large family with four children, all of whom were breastfed. However, it was not always smooth sailing. I have experienced challenges such as pain during feeding, babies refusing breast or bottle, thrush, mastitis, allergies, and reflux. I am eager to share my knowledge and experiences with you!

Fleur Jansen

My name is Fleur Jansen, and I have been a lactation consultant since 2021. During my training, I did an internship at Baby & Borstvoeding. Over nine years ago, I graduated as a midwife and have worked in various practices in and around Utrecht. Now, with three young children of my own, I am ready for more regular working hours as a lactation consultant.

More than just breastfeeding and pumping

In my work as a midwife, I gained extensive experience with newborns and postpartum mothers during the first week after birth. I have a deep understanding of the pregnancy and childbirth process and how it can influence the breastfeeding period. I also had the opportunity to do an internship at one of the tongue-tie clinics where Angelique works.

My own breastfeeding story

Together with my husband, I have two daughters and a son. Each time, I breastfed them, but it didn’t always go smoothly. Despite enjoying the breastfeeding experience, I encountered problems such as latching issues, a tight tongue tie, insufficient milk production, and the challenge of combining breast and formula feeding. I know what it’s like to struggle with the desire to breastfeed while also setting personal boundaries.

Mandy Mientjes

I am Mandy Mientjes, and I completed the lactation consultant training in 2022, including an internship at Baby & Borstvoeding. In 2010, I graduated as an HBO Nurse and initially worked in a surgical department at the hospital. After a brief stint in the adult Intensive Care unit, I decided to change course in 2016 and work as a childs nurse at the Utrecht municipality. I enjoy working with parents and their children aged 0 to 4 years. I see the role of a lactation consultant as a fantastic opportunity and a new challenge. I am thrilled to be doing this alongside Angelique and Fleur at Baby & Borstvoeding since 2023.

More than just breastfeeding and pumping

Due to my work as a youth nurse, I have gained extensive experience since 2016 with babies and guiding parents in (breast)feeding, handling crying, sleep issues, and reflux complaints. I also had the opportunity to do an internship at one of the tongue-tie clinics where Angelique works.

My own breastfeeding story

Together with my wife, I have three children. We both breastfed, which, overall, was a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, not everything went smoothly for us; we faced challenges such as pain during feeding, nipple cracks, and insufficient milk supply. We received support from a lactation consultant, which allowed us to continue breastfeeding with joy.
